As you all are aware, Metra will be closing York Road between Green Street and Irving Park Road (IL19) from June 23 – July 2. We have posted and blasted this information out to as many people as possible through website, EMC, social media, Board Meeting, Reverse 911 and letters. That being said, I am sure there will be multiple calls coming in during the closure to complain about the traffic, delays, safety situations, etc. I apologize in advance, but wanted you all to have as much pertinent information as possible should you receive calls.

Dates – June 23 through July 2 (Metra will pickup the closure earlier if they complete their work ahead of schedule)

Reason – Metra will be performing a railroad grade crossing renewal project. This means they will be removing and replacing the crossing material with new concrete pavement approaches and pads between the tracks. This will make the driving surface smoother for all vehicles that cross the tracks. They will also be performing some maintenance on the tracks themselves to assure they are safe and reliable.

Car Detour – We will be utilizing Addison Street as the main signed thoroughfare north and south. All non-truck (semi) traffic will be able to use the IL19 to Addison to Green route to get around York Road. We realize that this could cause some delays and backups (especially on westbound IL19). Addison Street was selected as it is a bit further away from the York/Irving intersection and hopefully will allow for a longer queue of traffic. Also, it eliminates the need to change the detour pattern for Music in the Park on Wednesday (6/29).

Truck Detour – The truck detour will utilize IL19, IL83, Grand Avenue, and County Line Road. Our main goal is to keep trucks from travelling on our residential streets. We have discussed this with the traffic control contractor and have tripled the number of truck detour signs from the original submittal. That being said, we will likely see trucks attempting to bypass the detour routes. I would expect that a few will get past the County Line Road and Green Street signs and have to turn south on York Road – South York Road is not a designated truck route!!!
