4th of July Celebration in Anacortes
In two weeks, Anacortes residents and guests will get together as in years past to take part in an Independence Day celebration to include a picnic, a town picture, a public fireworks display, and a parade.
The Anacortes Police Department mission is to help ensure you and your loved ones’ safety during this celebratory weekend. Please remember the following tips as you take part in the 4th of July festivities.
APD has already taken some reports of possible fireworks within City limits. All fireworks are illegal in Anacortes all the time. Officers will be issuing infractions to anyone who is discharging fireworks in the City. Please, for everyone’s safety, refrain from this activity.
We hope you all come out to the parade on Commercial Ave. A reminder to those in the parade: Do not throw candy from moving vehicles. We recommend people walk alongside moving vehicles and hand candy to the kids. Parents, please do not let your children run into the street to retrieve candy.
Because of the heat, people are prone to heat stroke and heat exhaustion, especially our children and elderly residents. Drink lots of water and find shade when possible. Avoid alcoholic beverages while out in the heat. As always, APD will be on the lookout for impaired drivers.
Wishing you a happy and safe 4th of July.
