UPDATE (6/20/16, 7:40 p.m.): Although there is no immediate threat to Monrovia, the Fish Fire in Duarte has started burning in a westerly direction towards Monrovia. We do not have any mandatory evacuation efforts in effect, however, residents who live in the area east of Myrtle Avenue and north of Greystone Avenue are encouraged to prepare for a possible evacuation later tonight in the event that prevailing winds change direction or increase in intensity.

Due to fast approaching evening hours, persons residing in the area located east of Myrtle Avenue and north of Greystone Avenue may wish to prepare for evacuation or voluntarily evacuate at this time. In addition, residents living in the impacted area are encouraged to stay informed by checking the City's website (www.cityofmonrovia.org).

In addition, residents living in the potential evacuation area are encouraged to not call the Police Department or Fire Department regarding the possible evacuation efforts. Should an evacuation effort be mandated, the Monrovia Police Department will coordinate the process and every residence will be contacted individually to ensure safety during the evacuation process. Instead of calling the Police Department or Fire Department, residents are encouraged to stay informed by checking the City's website (www.cityofmonrovia.org). We will be posting updates throughout the evening as local fire conditions change.

In the meantime, the City will be staffing our Emergency Operations Center throughout the evening, and in addition, we have made plans to establish the Monrovia Community Center (119 W. Palm Avenue) as an evacuation site in the event that an evacuation process becomes necessary.
