Monrovia Fire Update
UPDATE (6/20/16, 10:01 p.m.): City personnel just participated in a briefing with the command staff coordinating the response to the Fish Fire in Duarte. Based on the most up to date information available, the weather is stable and while the Fish Fire has grown to 3,000+ acres in size, firefighting crews have made progress towards containing the blaze away from residential locations.
Given this information, it is extremely unlikely that Monrovia will need to engage in any evacuation procedures tonight for any locations in the City. Furthermore, it is important to note that while evacuations are occurring in Duarte, there have not been any evacuations ordered in Bradbury.
Additionally, throughout the remainder of the evening, firefighting personnel will be working hard to further box in the Fish Fire in Duarte. Those efforts will be supported by two special firefighting helicopters equipped with night vision capabilities.
While this is all good news, there remains much work to be done. Throughout the rest of the evening, Monrovia Fire Department personnel will be monitoring our highest fire danger zones. This monitoring will take the form of sweeps conducted by Monrovia Fire Department personnel in the north-eastern quadrant of the City, with a special focus on Norumbega Drive, Ridgeside Drive, Oakglade Drive, and Canyon Park.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and on alert. To stay up to date on the status of the overall situation here in Monrovia, we encourage everyone to check the City's website (www.cityofmonrovia.org). We will continue to post updates throughout the evening as the local fire conditions change.
