Traffic Stop Finds Felony Arrests in a Case of Hidden Identity
Jasper: A Jasper man couldn’t hide from the truth after an early morning traffic stop by an Indiana State Trooper.
At 12:14 A.M., Trooper Ross Johnson was patrolling Newton Street near 2nd Street in Jasper when he initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge mini-van for speeding and having expired vehicle registration. During the stop, Trooper Johnson asked the driver for his license; the driver told Johnson that he did not have it, but identified himself as Anthony Gentry of Jasper. During the course of the traffic stop, Trooper Johnson believed Gentry to have been operating his vehicle while intoxicated. After field sobriety tests and blood testing, Gentry was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.14%. The legal limit for intoxication is 0.08%.
Johnson transported Gentry to the Dubois County Security Center. While processing Gentry, jail staff found Gentry to be in possession of an Indiana Driver’s License that indicated he was 37 year old Brian Eugene Gentry of Jasper. Staff compared documentation they had on file for Gentry and confirmed that he was Brian Gentry. Gentry had previous convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was listed by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a Habitual Traffic Violator.
Gentry’s Operating While Intoxicated charge was enhanced to a felony, and he was additionally charged with Operating while a Habitual Traffic Violator, false informing, and failure to identify himself. He was lodged without incident in the Dubois County Security Center.
