Dog Leash & License Downtown Directed Patrol, Wednesday June 22, 2016

In response to complaints of aggressive dogs and dog leash and license violations in the downtown corridor, Santa Barbara Police Department Animal Control Officers, Community Service Officers, and downtown Police Officers will be conducting a 2-hour directed patrol focusing on dog leash and license violations on the 400 – 900 blocks of State Street on Wednesday June 22, 2016, beginning at noon. This will primarily be an educational effort, although officers may issue citations for violations at their discretion.

Santa Barbara Municipal Code 6.08.020B states, in part, that “No dog is permitted upon a street or other public place unless on a leash not in excess of six (6) feet in length and under the immediate care and control of the owner or other person having the care and custody thereof….” SBMC 6.12.050A states, in part, that “Any person owning or having custody or control of one or more dogs in the City shall obtain a license and pay the license fee for custody or control of each such dog over the age of four (4) months.” For additional details, including the locations of off-leash dog areas and license requirements, please refer the full text of these ordinances which can be found at http://www.santabarbaraca.gov/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=12158.
