Trooper Speaks to Amish Community about Drug Use
Indiana State Police Senior Trooper David Caswell recently spoke to an Amish community in Elkhart County about the dangers, warnings signs, and law enforcements response to the drug epidemic.
Caswell, a fourteen year veteran of the state police, was tasked to develop a program and speak to the community after the Bremen Post was contacted by Amish leadership, commented Sgt. Trent Smith. Caswell’s presentations took place over two different evenings and addressed more than 400 youth and adults.
The two hour program covered many different facets including a canine demonstration with his partner Chase. Caswell’s program also included a presentation and open discussion about drug identification, current drug trends among youth and adults, and the consequences of alcohol and drug use.
Caswell is stationed at the Bremen Post and his primary duty is K-9 patrol for the district. His background includes working within state police drug programs to include certification as a Drug Recognition Expert. He and his K-9 partner Chase are also recent graduates of the state police canine school. Caswell has also spent several years working undercover in the Drug Enforcement Section and with the Marijuana Eradication Program.
