Press Release: NPD #1600-2653 Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation (14800 block of SR 37, Noblesville) 6.23.16

On June 23, 2016 at approximately 9:36 a.m., police officers and firefighters from the Noblesville Police & Fire Departments responded to the 14800 block of southbound SR 37 (Noblesville) in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. Officers and firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later and began to investigate.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appears that a 2005 Chevy pickup truck was traveling southbound in the 14800 block of SR 37 when it crashed into another vehicle. The other vehicle was identified as a 2012 Ford Escape registered to Certified Engineering, Inc. (Indianapolis). The Ford was reportedly parked on the right shoulder of the roadway in order for the occupants to conduct surveying work. Evidence at the scene suggests that the Chevy veered to the right side of the roadway causing it to strike the Ford and the two occupants who were standing outside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Chevy was identified as Timothy L. Osburn, 72, of Frankton, IN. Osburn was transported by ground ambulance to St. Vincent (Indianapolis) with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupant of the Ford standing on the driver’s side was identified as Derek J. Knowling, 31, of Roachdale, IN. Knowling was transported by air ambulance to I.U. Health Methodist (Indianapolis) in critical condition.

The 2nd occupant of the Ford was standing on the passenger’s side of the vehicle and he is identified as Brian T. Rees, 59, of Indianapolis, IN. Rees was transported by air ambulance to St. Vincent
(Indianapolis) in critical condition.

Investigators from the NPD Accident Reconstruction Unit were summons to the scene to collect evidence and gather information. As a result of the investigation, traffic on SR 37 was either restricted and/or closed between 146th Street and Greenfield Ave. until approximately 1:00 p.m.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
