BICYCLIST STUCK BY CAR AT THE INTERSECTION OF PITNEY AND HOBART AVE

On the date of 6-23-2016 at approximately 7:42 PM, the Absecon Police Department responded to a bicyclist being struck by a car at the intersection of Pitney Rd and Hobart Ave. The bicyclist was identified as Margaret Avagliano age 50 of Egg Harbor City. Avagliano was traveling south on Pitney Rd. riding her bicycle. As she was approaching the intersection of Hobart Ave and Pitney Rd a Lincoln Town Car operated by Franklin Jones, age 58 of Absecon had pulled up to the intersection and stopped for the stop sign. Jones inched his vehicle into the intersection and struck Avagliano knocking her onto the roadway.

Avagliano was transported to the AtlanticCare Regional Medical Facility City Campus by Pleasantville Ambulance Service with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was diverted around the intersection for approximately 30 minutes. Jones was issued a summons for failure to stop or yield at an intersection. The accident is under investigation by Ptl Howell of the Absecon Police Department. Any witnesses are asked to contact the department at 609-641-0667.
