One Fatality in Henry County Motorcycle Crash
Henry County – A North Carolina man was killed last night when the motorcycle he was riding left the roadway on east bound I-70 in western Henry County. Trooper Earnest Paige responded to the area of the 116 mile marker of east bound I-70, just before 10 p.m., for a report of a motorcycle crash in the median.
Paige arrived to find the victim and motorcycle in the median by the barrier cables. The preliminary investigation shows that the 2015 Harley Davidson, ridden by William M. Barnes, age 69 of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was east bound in the left lane when, for an unknown reason, it veered left off of the roadway.
The driver lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected as it crossed the gravel berm and entered into the grass area of the median. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Paige was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, Henry County EMS, Knightstown Police Department, Knightstown Fire Department and the Henry County Coroner. The investigation is ongoing.
