Osgood Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash
Ripley County-Yesterday, at approximately 9:35 pm, the Indiana State Police and the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on State Road 229 near County Road 200 West that claimed the life of an Osgood man.
The initial investigation by Trooper Matt Holley indicated that a 1995 GMC Jimmy being driven by Bret L. Brown, age 36, Osgood, Indiana was traveling westbound on State Road 229, just east of Napoleon, Indiana. Brown lost control of the vehicle while trying to navigate a curve in the road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck numerous trees. Brown’s vehicle then caught fire and burned as a result of the collision.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner’s Office. Brown was not wearing proper seatbelt restraints and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The Brown family has been notified.
Trp. Holley was assisted by Trp. Travis Linville, Indiana State Police, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Napoleon Fire Department, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
