Monrovia Fire Update - Keep Drones Away From Fire Response Area
UPDATE (6/26/16, 9:17 a.m.): One area of concern that has developed recently is the fact that there are privately operated drones that have been violating the air space within which fire response teams are operating. Yesterday, on June 25, 2016, we had to suspend air operations due to private drones flying in the path of firefighting aircraft. It is vitally important to noteā¦ fire officials cannot deploy firefighting aircraft when private individuals are flying drones in the fire response locations. Fortunately for us here locally, the fire was more fully contained when we had to suspend air operations yesterday, however, these types of disruptions are extremely dangerous to firefighting personnel and can cause severe disruptions to the response effort. We urge anyone with a drone to keep away from the fire operation by not flying drone vehicles into the firefighting airspace.
With that being said, it is important to emphasize again that we are increasingly confident that Monrovia will not be impacted by the fire. However, the City is still taking all necessary precautions here locally to prepare. We have maintained additional Monrovia Fire Department fire assessment teams, and the City will continue to keep Canyon Park, Trask Boy Scout Camp, and the Hillside Wilderness Preserve closed through the weekend. Furthermore, we have continued to ensure that all City reservoirs are filled at 100% capacity in the event that we need to access water for firefighting activities.
Again, it is important to emphasize that based on the current fire movement patterns, the situation is continuing to stabilize and there is no direct fire threat to Monrovia at this time. We will continue to assess the situation, and if the situation changes, we have City personnel that will be deployed to your home to notify you of any pending fire threats.
And although the fire situation is improving, we once again urge everyone to remain vigilant and on alert. To stay up to date on the status of the overall situation here in Monrovia, we encourage everyone to check the City's website (www.cityofmonrovia.org). We will continue to post updates as the local fire conditions change.
