With the Fourth of July just a few days away, many of us are planning BBQs and celebrations with family and friends over the Independence Day holiday weekend. However, the holiday weekend is an especially tough holiday for the four-legged members of our family.
Most animals are terrified of fireworks and this fear can pose a serious threat to their safety. Additionally, more pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year which makes July 5th the busiest day for the Corona Animal Shelter as lost and confused pets are found wandering the streets often far from home.
This year, as the City of Corona begins its Independence Day celebrations on Saturday, July 2nd, please take a moment to plan for your pets. In doing so, the Corona Animal Shelter would like to provide you with some helpful Pet Safety Tips:
• DO NOT take your pets with you to noisy celebrations; leave them at home, where they are safe inside your home or in a secure backyard.
• DO make sure your pets have plenty of water and shade. If your pet is inside your home, turn on music or the television.
• DO NOT leave your pets in a car while you enjoy a fireworks show.
• DO make sure your pet is wearing identification; with up-to-date contact information should they go missing.
If your pet does go missing:
• DO NOT assume it will come home on its own.
• DO visit the Corona Animal Shelter on July 5th and each day thereafter in an effort to find your missing pet. Bring a recent photograph of your pet to the shelter and complete a lost animal report if the pet is not located at the shelter.
