Distraction Burglaries
There have been recent scams in surrounding areas where individuals knock on the doors of unsuspecting victims and have an explanation why they must gain entry to the victim's house. One of the common stories is they have to check the pipes in your house because they are doing work on the water lines outside. Once the victim lets the person into the residence, they direct the resident to the basement with them while they inspect the pipes. While the resident is distracted in the basement accomplices will enter the residence and steal valuables from the residence. These individuals may be wearing work vests, helmets or using two way radios. These individuals are also very pushy. Do not let anyone into your residence. If you encounter a similar situation contact the police immediately.
