The West Covina Police Department reminds you that fireworks within the city limits are prohibited. Up to $1,500 fine for use.

Date of release: Saturday, July 2, 2016

On Monday, July 4, 2016, celebrations honoring our Nation’s Day of Independence will take place across the Country. It is always important to remember and recognize this very special day, and to use it to teach our children the meaning of what took place in 1776. The West Covina Police Department wants you to enjoy the holiday keeping in mind that our community’s safety is of the utmost importance.

In an effort to make the 4th of July a fun and safe experience for everyone in the City of West Covina, the City reminds residents that there is a zero tolerance approach to the illegal possession, use, sales, or distribution of fireworks. All fireworks are considered illegal in the City of West Covina including any “Safe and Sane” fireworks sold in neighboring communities.

The West Covina Police Department will be deploying additional resources, on the weekend of July 4th, to enforce the City’s fireworks ordinance. Fines for possession, use, sales, or distribution of fireworks of any type can be as much as $1,500.

The West Covina Police Department encourages anyone with information about the illegal possession, use, sales, or distribution of fireworks to contact the police department at 626-939-8500.
Additionally, you may surrender any illegal fireworks to any of the 5 West Covina Fire Stations with no questions asked. For station locations, visit www.westcovina.org.

The best way to celebrate the 4th of July is by attending a professional fireworks show. On July 4, 2016, a carnival and fireworks spectacular will take place at Edgewood High School located at 1301 S Trojan Way, West Covina, CA 91790. The entrance fee for the carnival and fireworks show is $1.00 per person beginning at 3:00 p.m. (fireworks show begins at 9:00p.m.) A portion of the proceeds from the gate receipts will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As a friendly reminder, no alcohol is allowed at this event and bags are subject to search. We invite you to bring the whole family and enjoy the festivities.
