“Members of our community, there are rumors circulating social media suggesting the there will be a Black Lives Matter march, beginning here in Hiram, and going to the courthouse in Dallas. This march is supposedly scheduled for sometime this afternoon or evening. While we appreciate the support that our citizens have shown us and continue to show us, we want to encourage everyone to avoid becoming involved in this demonstration. These demonstrations take a significant toll on public safety resources. We are working together with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Dallas Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, the Paulding County Marshalls Service, the Paulding County Fire Department and EMS to ensure that the marchers complete their endeavor without incident. At the same time, we are working to ensure minimal disruption to the lives of all who travel through our community. We need your assistance in avoiding the area and allowing us to clear the roadways as soon as possible without incident. Our ability to clear up the roadways and restore traffic flows to normal is a function of how few people actually become involved in this incident and show up to view it. The fewer the onlookers, the less likely we will run into issues which prevent the marchers from finishing their journey. All of your law enforcement servants in this county appreciate the overwhelming support you offer us daily. Your thoughts and your prayer s help to keep our spirits uplifted during times of civil unrest and we need for you to continue to offer these in our support. We would also ask that you please, for our safety and the safety of everyone involved in this event, please avoid Hwy. 278 from Hiram to Dallas this evening if at all possible. Avoid participating and temper your show of support for public safety until we can get this event done and off our roadways. Thank you.”
