LAAPOA Statement on Hit-and-Run Involving LAXPD Officer

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers' Association (LAAPOA) would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to the multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies who assisted LAXPD Motor Officer Daniel Quiros after he was involved in a hit-and-run collision early Tuesday morning. The suspects exited their vehicle and fled on foot.An off duty LAPD Pacific Division Officer was the first on scene and immediately called for help. Shortly afterwards, a LAXPD Motor Officer responded and set a perimeter as he assisted Officer Quiros.

The traffic collision left Officer Quiros badly injured. Officer Quiros was transported to UCLA Westwood where he was treated for his injuries. Thankfully, the suspects were apprehended and booked.

When this incident occurred, numerous surrounding law enforcement agencies responded including the LAPD, LASD, Culver City PD and LAXPD Patrol Units. The LAPD Airship was up immediately and a hard perimeter set. This multi-agency cooperation led to the apprehension of the suspects without incident.

The citizens of Westchester/Los Angeles, who in these trying times of national unrest and acts of violence towards law enforcement officers, showed their resolve and love of community by rushing to the aid of Officer Quiros. Among the chaos, a citizen brought out a pillow so that Officer Quiros could rest his head and be comfortable. Witnesses stayed and gave statements, which put the suspects in the vehicle at the time of the traffic collision.

LAAPOA President Marshall McClain said, "the epidemic of hit and runs in Los Angeles is a sad commentary. We are thankful for the help of the community in rendering aid to Officer Quiros and in assisting with identifying the suspects. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Officer Quiros and his family."
