Versailles Trooper Receives ‘Top Gun’ Award at Pistol Match

Plainfield-Last week, at the annual Indiana State Police Pistol Match, Trooper Brent Lykins from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post finished in first place, taking the “Top Gun” Award, while Master Trooper Jason Hankins, also from the Versailles Post, finished in 20th place.

The annual pistol match was held at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana.  Each of the 14 Indiana State Police Posts send a team of four troopers to compete in the match.  The Capitol Police Section also sends a team of four officers to compete.

The competition consists of one hand precision timed shooting on a bullseye target from 25 yards.  All competitors shot the course of 30 shots twice before the scores were finalized.  Trp. Lykins came in first place while Trp. Hankins finished twentieth out of all competitors at the match.  The top 20 finishers are then issued “Top 20” uniform pins while the “Top Gun” award winner’s name is inscribed in a plaque at the Indiana State Police General Headquarters.  The Pendleton District took the team title.

Trp. Lykins is a ten year veteran and Trp. Hankins is a seventeen year veteran of the Indiana State Police.

Trp. Lykins also won the “Top Gun” Award in 2011.
