Merrillville Man Flown from Crash Scene
Merrillville, Lake County-A single vehicle crash, last night, caused the driver to be air lifted from the scene because of his injuries.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Brandon Alberts revealed that at approximately 9:45 p.m., Thursday, July 14th, 2016 evening, a 2002 Chevrolet Astro van driven by Jason Seiger, 41 of Merrillville was south bound on I-65 near 61st Avenue. This area is a construction zone where the middle lanes of four lanes is closed. The Chevrolet attempted to change lanes, by going through the construction barrels blocking the middle lane, to go to the far right lane to exit onto 61st Avenue.
Seiger lost control and rolled his Astro van several times. The Chevrolet came to rest on its left side in the ditch on the west side of the road. The passenger, Jeremy Moats, 26 of Crown Point, was able to get out of the Chevrolet. Seiger had to be extricated by the Merrillville Fire Department.
Due to Seiger’s injuries all lanes south bound were closed for the landing of a medical helicopter where Seiger was then taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Moats was taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life threatening injuries.
