Hindustan – (Monroe County) Just before 10 pm last night a crash resulting in a fatal injury occurred near Crossover Road on State Road 37 north of Bloomington.
For reasons still unknown, a northbound 1965 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Joseph T. Birtchman, 33 of Indianapolis, crossed the median and continued into the southbound lanes, striking an oncoming car.
The southbound vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Mini Van driven by Victoria E. Wielosinski of Bloomington, was unable to avoid collision with the pickup truck. Wielosinski suffered what was described as non-life threatening injuries and was transported to IU Health Bloomington.
Birtchman was transported by ambulance to IU Health, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Birtchman Family has been notified.
