City of Windsor Heights Partners with American Traffic Solutions
Speed Enforcement Program Expands with New Vendor

(Windsor Heights, IA) The city of Windsor Heights welcomes American Traffic Solutions (ATS) as its new vendor in the city’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic collisions and speeding.

ATS emerged from a competitive selection process with the contract to furnish, install, operate and maintain the city’s Speed Enforcement Program, which consists of one mobile speed unit and two additional fixed systems. Speed safety cameras have been in use in the city since 2012 and have contributed to reductions in speeding. One high-resolution mobile speed camera will be activated on July 21, 2016. Two more high-resolution cameras will be activated along University Avenue after construction.

“Our police department is pleased to welcome American Traffic Solutions to our public safety program,” said Derek Meyer, Interim Chief of Police. “In addition to changing driver behavior, reducing speeding, crashes and injuries, these cameras work as a ‘force multiplier’ for our police officers. With the cameras helping to enforce traffic laws, our officers have more time to focus on drunken and reckless drivers, to respond to significant crimes and to target other serious crimes.”

Camera systems from ATS, the nation’s leading road safety camera vendor, use advanced radar and tracking technology along with high-resolution cameras to compile a complete evidence package. ATS’s AutoPatrol Speed Safety Camera Solution provides effective and continuous speed coverage with its highly accurate tracking radar capabilities, high-resolution color camera and unobtrusive, tamper-proof housing. Unlike traditional fixed speed systems, the non-invasive AutoPatrol system requires no pavement cutting or maintenance.

The systems capture photographs of the speeding vehicle’s license plate along with its location, speed and other necessary information. Ultimately, law enforcement personnel decide whether the evidence is sufficient to issue a citation to the vehicle owner. Violations are mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle after police review and approval. Persons who receive a violation notice have the option to pay the fine, appeal the notice or dispute it in court.

“We are proud to partner with Windsor Heights in its efforts to use the latest technology and processing systems to make its streets safer for all drivers,” said Liz Caracciolo, SVP, General Manager of State and Local Government Solutions.
