ISP Lafayette Offers Active Shooter Training to Communities

In today’s world, recent events have shown us that trouble can strike in the blink of an eye and at any location. One of those events is the far to frequent active shooter. For the last few years, Indiana State Police has been providing training and information to Indiana schools to educate students and staff on the options they have during an armed intruder assault.

During the last few months, ISP has updated and evolved the training program. The program, Unarmed Response to Active Shooter Events, now includes specific information aimed at educating individuals and businesses to better prepare them for an active shooter event. Presentation materials and learning aids, as well as videos, have been specifically developed for corporate environments, schools, school buses, and individuals. The resources are free and available online at www.in.gov/isp/3191.htm.

In the past, schools were most often the beneficiary of this training. While the ISP will continue to vigorously train the educational systems of Indiana, the department wishes to remind businesses, corporations, civic organizations, that they too can request this training at their facility. The training is free of charge.

“We are here to assist schools, communities and businesses in our district to help them to better prepare for possible situations that have occurred around the country in recent weeks. We are here to provide the best training for those we serve.” States Lafayette District Commander Lieutenant Tom McKee.

If your school, community or business lies within the Lafayette District, person(s) can schedule a training session or learn more about the training by contacting ISP Sergeant Mike Krueger,Trooper Steven Grayson or Trooper Darrick Scott at the Lafayette Post, 765-567-2125. The Lafayette District is comprised of White, Carroll, Clinton, Montgomery, Fountain, Warren, Benton and Tippecanoe Counties.
