Original Message:

Detectives from the Santa Barbara Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the man depicted in the attached photographs due to his resemblance to a sexual assault suspect.

In the early morning hours of July 23, 2016 officers and detectives from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a call of a sexual assault that occurred in the City of Santa Barbara. Investigation indicates that the suspect entered an unlocked residence and sexually assaulted the victim. The suspect is unknown to the victim. He is described as a Hispanic male adult, 5’8” to 5’10” tall, and 180 to 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white button-up shirt and white shorts, and carrying a cloth bag or backpack. He may be developmentally disabled or speech impaired. To preserve the integrity of the investigation and to protect the identity of the victim, additional details are being withheld.

The attached security camera photographs were taken on July 23, 2016 shortly after 4:00 a.m. in the vicinity of the 200 block of State Street. If you recognize this person or know of his whereabouts, please contact SBPD Detective Douglas Klug at (805) 897-2346 or [email protected], the SBPD Watch Commander’s Office at (805) 897-2376, or call anonymously to (805) 897-2386. If you see this person, please call 9-1-1.

Prowlers know that hot summer weather prompts residents to leave doors and windows open at night. To prevent crimes like this the Santa Barbara Police Department encourages residents to secure their homes by keeping their ground level doors and windows locked, and by using a security alarm and motion activated exterior lighting if they have them. If a ground level window must be left partially open to provide ventilation, SBPD recommends the use of a sliding window lock which can be obtained from most hardware stores.
