Sand Fire Update
The Sand Fire is approximately 22,000 acres and 10% contained. Los Angeles County Fire, Forest Service, and LA County Sheriff are in "Unified Command". Over 1,673 firefighters are engaged in the attack. 18 structures have been lost and there has been one confirmed fatality.
Sand Canyon residents with a valid ID will be allowed to return home via Soledad Canyon/Sand Canyon at 1:00 p.m. Please note that Placerita Canyon remains closed at the 14 freeway. All other road closures remain in effect as well.
South Coast AQMD has issued a Smoke Advisory effective today until midnight tomorrow based on unhealthy air quality conditions as a result of the Sand Fire.
The city’s Aquatics Center and all men’s/coed softball games are cancelled today (7/24) due to the unhealthy air quality.
