Intersection at S.R. 9 and W. 53rd in Anderson Closed the Result of Police Action Shooting at Rickers Gas Station
Anderson, IN – At about 8:20 this morning an on-duty state police officer walked into the Rickers gas station at the intersection of S.R. 9 and W. 53rd in Anderson and was told by the clerk that they had just been held-up by a white male that had just walked out of the service station. The clerk pointed to the suspect who had already stepped into a vehicle. When the trooper confronted the suspected armed robber a gun was pointed at the trooper, who then drew his weapon and fired multiple shots at the suspect, striking the vehicle the suspect was in as well as striking the suspect at least one time.
The suspect then surrendered, medical aid was summoned and the suspect was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, Anderson, for treatment of his gunshot wound, which is not believed to be life threatening.
The investigation of the robbery and resulting shooting is still ongoing and the intersection at the location of the robbery and shooting may be closed for the next few hours. It is recommended that residents that frequent this area refrain from doing so until later today.
There was no injury to the state police officer. An update to this release will be issued later today as more information becomes available.
