HMPD Officers arrest man following a disturbance.
On Friday, July 29, 2016 at approximately 3:30am, Hope Mills Police Officers responded to the 3100 block of North Main Street in reference to a disturbance where a subject was threatening other individuals with a handgun in a parking lot. As a Hope Mills Police Officer traveled towards the scene of the disturbance, he spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle leaving the parking lot. At that time, the Officer turned around on the vehicle and began to follow it. When the Officer turned on his blue lights to stop the vehicle, it accelerated rapidly and turned right onto Golfview Drive where the driver, later identified as Oscar Enrique Luna-Rivera, 42, of the 4700 block of South Main Street, Hope Mills, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree located at the intersection of Golfview Drive and Sagamore Drive. Luna-Rivera was taken into custody at the scene of the crash by pursuing Officers and transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he was charged with the following offenses:
1 count of Misdemeanor Driving While Impaired
1 count of Misdemeanor Careless and Reckless Driving
