Greene County Native Eric Russell Promoted to ISP Sergeant
Bloomington – Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has announced the promotion of Master Trooper Eric Russell to the rank of Sergeant, to serve as Crime Scene Investigator for the Bloomington District. Sgt. Russell’s primary responsibilities will be assisting with criminal investigations by providing forensic crime scene support along with maintaining security and continuity of physical evidence. Russell with also be tasked with reconstruction, identification, collection and preservation of crime scene evidence. Sgt. Russell will also be conducting training seminars, maintaining department cameras and portable breath test instruments along with other crime scene equipment. He will also supervise the maintenance of the District Evidence Storage Rooms.
Originally from Linton, Sgt. Russell is a 1987 graduate of Linton High School. He then graduated from Indiana State University in 1994 with a degree in Criminology. He was a member of the 56th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and in 1998 was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the Bremen District where he patrolled Kosciusko County. In 2001 Sgt. Russell transferred to the Bloomington District where he has patrolled Greene, Owen and Monroe Counties.
During his career, Sgt. Russell has served the Department in a variety of ways including as a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon Team (Riot Squad) the ISP Honor Guard, Field Training Officer and as a Crash Reconstructionist.
Sgt. Russell also served in the US Army from 1987-1990.
Eric and his wife have two children and are residents of rural Monroe County.
