Five Vehicle Crash Sends Three To Hospital
Henry County – This afternoon, shortly before 1:30 p.m., troopers responded to I-70 east bound at the 115 mm, Knightstown exit, for a report of a five vehicle crash in the construction zone back up just west of the SR 109 overpass. Trooper Scott Keegan arrived to find four semis and a Dodge pickup involved.
The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2014 Volvo semi, pulling a box trailer and driven by Jo Edison Young, age 47 of Lucerne Valley, CA. was driving in the right lane, too fast for existing traffic conditions approaching the left lane closure, when he ran into the rear and under the box trailer being pulled by a Freightliner, driven by William Brown, age 30 of Cambridge, Ohio. Brown and other traffic were stopped at the time at the lane merge.
That impact pushed Brown’s semi into and partially under the box trailer of a Freightliner driven by Robert Campbell, age 62 of Worth, Il., who was then pushed forward into a flatbed semi driven by Amos Fisher, age 26 of Honey Grove, PA. Fisher’s semi was then pushed forward where it hit the rear of a 2012 Dodge pickup driven by Shaun Creamer, at 48 of Kenton Ohio.
Young, who had to be extricated, was flown by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, with unknown injuries. William Brown was taken by ambulance to Henry County Hospital, with non- life threatening injuries. The driver of the third semi, Robert Campbell, was taken to Hancock County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Amos Fisher and Shaun Creamer were not injured.
The crash, which had I-70 east bound traffic routed up and over the Knightstown exit until 5 p.m., remains under investigation. Trooper Keegan was assisted at the scene by Troopers Paul Harrison and Eric Thumb; the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, the Knightstown Fire Department and Davis Towing.
