On August 3, 2016, at approximately 12:30 am, residents of Clark Avenue in Thurmont reported hearing an explosion. As one resident began to investigate, she noticed damage to a Thurmont Police vehicle which was parked along the street. The resident alerted a Thurmont Police Officer and further assessment determined that a metal pipe bomb had been detonated on the Thurmont Police vehicle. Damage was caused to the vehicle. No one was injured as a result of the explosion. Due to the nature of this incident, the Thurmont Police, Frederick County Fire Marshall, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are conducting a joint investigation. At the time of this media release, the scene is being processed and the investigation is being conducted.
