Department News Release: NPD Explorer Post 130 Earns National Award (2016)

During the week of July 11-16, 2016, cadets from the Noblesville Police Explorer Post 130 traveled to Flagstaff, AZ in order to participate and compete in the 2016 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference. The conference is conducted every other year and is attended by thousands of Law Enforcement Explorers and their adult leaders from throughout the country. The conference program provides a week of team and individual competitions, seminars, demonstrations, exhibits, recreation and fun.

Post 130 was represented by eight (8) explorers during the week and was accompanied by several police officers, who also serve as explorer counselors and mentors, from the Noblesville Police Department. During the team competition portion, Post 130 was split into two teams of four. Each team was given three different topics and scenarios in which to compete. Topics ranged in nature from burglary in progress, crime prevention, crime scene search, crisis negotiations, traffic accident investigation, and traffic stops, to name a few. The teams competed against hundreds of other teams throughout the week in spirited competition.

NPD is proud to announce that members of Post 130 received national recognition for finishing 3rd overall in the topic of Arrest and Search. “This is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication that our members put into the preparation for this event, but it also exemplifies the quality and commitment that they bring to the overall mission and objectives of the explorer program,” stated Patrolman Matt Johnston, Explorer Program Coordinator.

Chief Kevin Jowitt would like to extend an invitation and encourage all eligible youths to participate in the explorer program. Chief Jowitt said, “This program places significant emphasis on career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience. This is a tremendous opportunity for law enforcement and our youth to work together to make our community great.”

The program accepts participants who are 14 years of age (and have completed 8th grade) or those 15-19 years of age. If you are interested in participating, or simply would like to learn more about the program, please contact the Program Coordinator, Patrolman Matt Johnston at [email protected] .
