One Flown From Delaware County Crash

Delaware County – This morning just before 9 a.m. troopers in Delaware County responded to a report of a crash with serious injury on SR 28 at CR 600 W. in Delaware County. Units arrived to find a man trapped in a box utility van that had rear ended a semi at the intersection of east bound SR28 and CR 600W.

Samuel Morrison, age 32 of Marion, had to be extricated from the 2005 Ford Van by the Gaston and Muncie Fire Departments, and was flown by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with leg injuries. The driver of the semi and box trailer, Erin Wimmer, age 29 of Converse, IN, was uninjured.

The preliminary investigation is that Morrison was east bound in the van and approached the intersection at a speed to fast to stop at the stop sign. The east bound Peterbilt semi, which had just stopped at the stop sign, was proceeding forward when Morrison’s van hit the rear of the box trailer. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, as the investigation is ongoing.

The crash had SR 28 closed for two hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage. Trooper Perkins was assisted in the investigation by ISP Sergeant Jeff Zeiger, CVED Trooper Jeremy Mason, Gaston and Muncie Fire, Delaware County Sheriff’s Department and Delaware County EMS.

All Suspects Are Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law
