Motorcycle and Police Car Collide in Intersection
Monticello-Today at approximately 5:39 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois St. and Broadway St, a Monticello Police car and a 2006 Harley Davison Motorcycle collide sending the driver of the motorcycle to the hospital.
Jimmy Thompson, 53 of Monticello was southbound on Illinois St. approaching the intersection of Broadway St. The fully marked 2016 Dodge Charger driven by Charles Morehead, 34 of Monticello was westbound on Broadway approaching the intersection with his emergency lights and siren activated. Morehead allegedly stopped and then proceeded into the intersection when the motorcycle hit him broadside on the front right fender, spinning the motorcycle around and coming to rest in the intersection with Thomson lying next to the bike. The patrol car came to a stop just west of the intersection.
Thompson was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with facial, wrist and left ankle injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Morehead was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. The intersection is controlled by a stop light and it is unsure at this time which way the light was green. The investigation is continuing. The crash is being investigated by Trooper Tyler Bentlage. Assisting at the scene was the Monticello Fire Department, Monticello EMS and the White County Sheriff’s Department. I have no pictures.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
