Trooper Revives Drug Overdose Victim
Shelby County, IN – Today, the quick response and actions of Indiana State Trooper Jeff Stone saved the life of 19 year old Tanner Loveless of Fountaintown. At approximately 3:30 this afternoon police responded to an address near Fountaintown on the report of a possible drug overdose. Family members had returned home finding Loveless unresponsive and barely breathing. Trooper Stone was nearby and immediately responded. Upon arrival he found the victim unconscious and barely breathing. Stone quickly relied on his recent training and administered a dose of Narcan (Naloxone) to the victim. The lifesaving nasal spray revived Loveless and he began breathing on his own. Medics from Moral Township Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the Shelbyville Fire Department arrived a short time later and administered a second dose of Narcan. The victim regained consciousness and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officers investigating the incident believe Loveless had possibly overdosed on Suboxone.
Narcan is a medicine that blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose. After a dose of Narcan, a person who has overdosed on opioids should begin to breathe more normally and it should become easier to wake them up. The Indiana State Police recently trained troopers statewide on the use of Narcan (Naloxone) and issued each trooper a dose of the life saving drug.
This is an ongoing investigation, at this time there are no arrests made related to this incident.
