On 08/14/2016 just after 3:30 pm, wanted registered sex offender 61 year old Dale R. Schaeffer of Fremont surrendered himself to the Steuben County Jail without incident. An arrest warrant was issued by the Steuben Superior Court charging Schaeffer with one count of failure to register as a sex or violent offender, a level 6 felony. The warrant came after a Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations that Schaeffer allegedly failed to report required information to the Sheriff’s Office Sex and Violent Offender Registry within the lawful 72 hour time limit. Schaeffer was booked into the Steuben County Jail and subsequently posted 10% of a $5,000.00 cash bond and was released.
