Death Investigation Underway in Shelburn
Sullivan County—The Indiana State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the death of 35-year-old Rustin M. Rehmel of 115 West Broadway Street in Shelburn. Rehmel was found fully clothed on the living room floor of her residence.
Preliminary investigation reveals at approximately 02:36 this morning, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from 115 West Broadway in Shelburn. The caller friend stated the female victim was unresponsive. Minutes later, Sullivan County emergency services arrived and determined the female was deceased at the scene.
Detectives believe Rehmel may have been in an altercation at another location and was transported home. At this time, ISP and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office are conducting many interviews related to this case and foul play has not been ruled out. Officers believe this is an isolated event and there is no danger to the public. This information is preliminary and the investigation is fluid, so information is subject to change.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning, August 16, at 8:00a.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. More information will be released as it becomes available. Please direct any questions to ISP Sergeant Joe Watts.
