Initial Autopsy Complete in Shelburn Death Investigation
Initial Autopsy Complete in Shelburn Death Investigation
Sullivan County—This morning, an autopsy was conducted on 35-year-old Rustin M. Rehmel of Shelburn at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr.
Sullivan County Deputy Coroner Mary Ann Dudley has indicated the initial autopsy is complete; however, further consultation and medical testing is ongoing. At the conclusion of this additional data, more details will be provided, such as cause of death and manner of death. Until that time the coroner’s office and law enforcement are asking for patience. The investigation is moving forward and you will be updated as it becomes available.
The Indiana State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Rehmel was found unresponsive early Monday morning at her home at 115 West Broadway Street in Shelburn. She was fully clothed and lying on the living room floor. A friend had called 911 at 02:36 reporting her unresponsive. Minutes later she was pronounced deceased at her residence. Officers believe she was involved in an altercation at another location prior to her death.
Investigators are conducting many interviews related to this case. When new developments arise, they will be released at that time. Officials believe this is an isolated event and there is no reason for citizens to fear for their safety.
