Southern Pines Police Department
Announces:
Community Notification - Counterfeit U.S. Currency
During the past several weeks, counterfeit one-hundred dollar bills have been passed at local retail and restaurant establishments in Southern Pines and the Moore County area. The Southern Pines Police Department is providing our community with this information in hopes that increased awareness will prevent citizens and local business from becoming victims of this type of crime.
We ask that local business remain vigilant when accepting large bills and to notify the Police Department immediately if they suspect someone has passed counterfeit currency. The police department would like to provide the following tips to local business and residents:
• Use approved counterfeit detection pens
• Examine the size and texture of the bill
• Check the bills markings, printing color, and serial numbers
• Check the bill for the appropriate security features
Other methods of checking for counterfeit U.S. currency can been located at: http://www.secretservice.gov/data/KnowYourMoneyApril08.pdf
