Modesto, CA – Detectives witness a shooting while investigating another shooting that took a Modesto man’s life.
On Wednesday night at about 9:50 p.m., officers were on an unrelated call when they heard shots fired in the area of the 1300 block of E. Rumble Road. A citizen flagged down the officers saying a man had been shot. Emergency personnel responded and transported 26-year-old Joseph Jackson to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The early investigation indicates the victim was in front of his residence with family when suspect Johnny Badie, 20-years-old, arrived on foot. The Jackson and Badie were talking when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Jackson several times. Badie fled the area before police arrived. Detectives located Badie on Thursday and booked him into the Stanislaus County Jail for murder.
On Thursday afternoon, a detective witnessed a shooting at Zarand Drive and E. Rumble Road while helping with search warrants in the area related to the homicide. A suspect got out of a vehicle stopped on E. Rumble Road and began shooting at another car driving by. The suspect got back in a car and the driver started to flee with the detective behind them. The detective pursued the vehicle back to the 1700 block of E. Rumble Road when the occupants fled on foot into residences. A perimeter was established and numerous subjects were detained. One suspect was arrested at the conclusion of the investigation. Stockton resident, Stephen Johnson IV was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for shooting at an occupied dwelling and assault with a deadly weapon, criminal street gang involvement and domestic violence warrants.
Detectives are in the preliminary stages of both investigations and motives have not been determined. It is unknown if both shootings are related.
