Five Men Arrested After Being Caught with Handgun and Marijuana
Fulton County – Yesterday at approximately 10:07 p.m., a traffic stop by Indiana State Trooper Ben Reason led to the arrests of Ashton White, 19, Clinton, MD, Floyd Redfield, 21, Mission Viejo, CA, Kevin Stepherson Jr., 18, Jacksonville, FL, Dexter Williams, 19, Winter Garden, FL, and Te’Von Coney, 19, West Palm Beach, FL. All five were incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail to face a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana. Redfield, Stepherson Jr., and Williams face an additional charge for possession of a handgun without a license.
Trooper Reason initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 Ford Focus on U.S. 31, near Fulton County Road 375 North, for allegedly traveling 73 miles per hour in a posted 60 miles per hour zone. The Ford also allegedly had an improper taillight. While Trooper Reason was speaking with the driver, identified as White, he allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the car. Trooper Reason utilized his narcotics detecting police dog, Cartoush, to conduct a free air sniff around the Ford. The dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the car, officers allegedly found marijuana and a loaded handgun.
Trooper Ben Reason was assisted by Trooper Jessie Reason and officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
