Investigation into Suspicious Persons Leads to Seizure of a Mobile Meth Lab

Tell City: A methamphetamine lab was removed from the truck of a car after officers followed up on two suspicious Spencer County men.

While inside the CVS Pharmacy in Tell City, Tell City Officer Daymion Marsh observed a man acting suspicious. Marsh contacted Master Trooper Trey Lytton and informed him that the man had been driving a white Chevrolet Cavalier. Lytton drove through the parking lot and located the vehicle, but did not get a computer return on the vehicle registration until after it had left the parking lot. Lytton continued checking information and found that the possible identity of the male was 37 year old Jason Tuley of Dale. Tuley was actively wanted through Spencer County. Marsh confirmed with Lytton after seeing a picture that Tuley was the male he observed in CVS.

A short time later, Lytton observed the Chevrolet pull into the Walmart parking lot on State Road 66 in Tell City. Lytton observed the Chevrolet pull up to the front of the store where 19 year old Shawn Payne of Evanston got into the car. Lytton observed the Chevrolet pull onto State Road 66, when Tell City Officer Bryce Hammack initiated the traffic stop.

Officers learned that both Tuley and Payne were wanted on warrants through Spencer County. As officers were checking the Chevrolet, they opened the trunk and immediately smelled a strong chemical odor. After observing numerous items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine, the Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Suppression Section was contacted to dismantle and dispose of the meth lab. During a search of the vehicle, officers found smoking pipes, hypodermic needles, synthetic marijuana, pills that were identified as legend drugs, and burnt aluminum foil that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both Tuley and Payne were arrested without incident and lodged in the Perry County Jail.
