Campbell Schools Back in Session Tomorrow - Traffic Safety Tips
Summer vacation is drawing to a close as children in the Campbell Union School District head back to school tomorrow, August 24. The Campbell Police Department would like to remind drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be safe as there will be increased traffic on the roadways.
Some drivers have become accustomed to the lighter traffic during the summer months. Now that school is back in session, be sure to allow extra time when driving and avoid rushing. Drivers should proceed with extra caution as children will be heading to school on foot, scooters, and on bicycles. Please remember that the speed limit drops down to 25 mph in school zones.
Drivers will once again have to share the road with school buses. If a school bus stops ahead of you, please remain stopped behind the bus as the red lights are flashing and do not attempt to pass as children board and exit the bus.
Remember that there will be crossing guards stationed at crosswalks surrounding school zones. Please follow their directions so we can get all the children safely across these intersections.
Parents, this is a great time to remind your child of safety precautions when walking or biking to school. Looking both ways when crossing, watching for cars that may not be aware of their presence, and avoiding electronics usage, which may serve as distractions, as they travel to school. The Campbell Police Department has prepared a safety video which may be viewed on our YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/cMa_LHOZc2c).
Please report unsafe drivers to the Campbell Police Department’s Traffic Division at (408) 866-2128.
We wish you a safe and happy school year!
