Current Situation: Fire crews made significant progress on the south east corner of the fire last night. With continued favorable weather, crews plan to secure this critical flank within the next couple of days. There was very little fire activity through the night allowing for crews to complete line and clear brush around the Mono Creek drainage. Infrared flights were used to help crews locate hotspots outside of the perimeter. There are currently 15 helicopters and air tankers assigned to the Rey Fire that have been working in tandem with our ground resources.
Today crews will continue to construct line directly on the fire’s perimeter along the southern flank north of Gibraltar Reservoir; while improving containment lines to hold the fire at Mono Creek the primary containment line. Contingency lines are in place on the P-Bar Trail and the Pendola Jeep Trail.
There have been three drone incursions that have impacted air operations on the Rey fire. It is critical that the public not use drones near the fire area as they affect aerial suppression as well as operations, leaving fire crews on the ground without support.
Fire Weather: A low pressure system will move across the region today and tomorrow bringing cooler temperatures. Westerly winds are expected with gusts of up to 15 mph in the afternoon, moving smoke to the southeast and east of the fire. For the latest smoke forecast https://www.ourair.org/todays-air-quality/.
Evacuations & Closures: East Camino Cielo Road will be closed to all traffic at the Junction of Highway 154. Painted Cave Road is closed at Highway 154. Both roads are closed for the safety of firefighter and equipment movement. An evacuation order remains in effect for the Paradise Road recreation areas, parts of Stagecoach Road and the Los Prietos Boy Camp. Paradise Road remains closed due heat remain on the fire’s southern flank. Campgrounds will remain closed through the weekend. Highway 154 is open to traffic.
