Improper Lane Usage Results in DUI Arrest
Vigo County—Last night at 11:30, Indiana State Police Trooper Michael Organ was patrolling westbound on Wabash Avenue and stopped next to a silver 2006 Chevrolet Malibu that was in the westbound turn lane for southbound 6th Street in Terre Haute, IN. As the light turned green, instead of turning southbound as the lane indicated, the Malibu continued westbound through the intersection nearly sideswiping Trooper Organ.
The Malibu was stopped and a strong odor of what appeared to be burnt marijuana was emanating from the vehicle’s interior. A search of the vehicle yielded less than two grams of suspected marijuana, assorted paraphernalia, and alcoholic beverages.
The arrested driver, Vaughn Anthony Dumas, age 19, of Indianapolis, IN. was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (Controlled Substance), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession of Alcoholic Beverages by a Minor.
A front seat passenger, Nicholas Freeman, age 19, was cited and released for Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, and Minor Consumption of Alcohol.
The case was investigated by ISP Trooper Michael Organ. Assisting were Trooper Michael Taylor and Sergeant Joe Watts.
The attached picture is Trooper Michael Organ locating contraband during a search of the vehicle’s trunk and a photo of the seized items.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
