Search for Property Crime Suspect
San Pablo, CA – On Friday, August 26, 2026 at about 7:10 p.m. while San Pablo Police Department (SPPD) jail staff were dropping off a suspect at the Martinez Detention Facility for misdemeanor vandalism and trespassing charges, the suspect escaped from custody in the driveway just outside the detention facility. San Pablo, with the assistance of Martinez police personnel and Contra Costa County Sheriffs personnel, searched for the handcuffed prisoner by foot, by car and by airship. After a couple hours the search was called off due to the non-violent nature of the suspect's original crimes.
The escapee was identified as 29 year-old Nyilah Hutcherson of Rodeo, CA. Hutcherson is 5-7 120 lbs. and was wearing the following clothing at the time of the incident: black hooded sweatshirt, a white t-shirt and black pants. Ms. Hutcherson is not considered a threat to public safety. The San Pablo Police Department would appreciate receiving any information the public may have on Ms. Hutcherson's whereabouts. Please call San Pablo Police dispatch at 510-233-1214.
The San Pablo Police Department would also like to thank the Martinez Police Department and Contra Costa County Sheriffs for their assistance during this incident.
