Trooper Injured in I-65 Crash
Jackson County-Yesterday, at approximately 9:00 pm, an Indiana State Trooper was injured in a crash when his vehicle was struck by a commercial motor vehicle northbound on I-65 at the 38 mile marker near Crothersville, Indiana.
Trooper Michael Thiron was initially dispatched to the area of the 38 mile marker for a previous crash with injuries in which a southbound vehicle slid into the cable barrier. Trp. Thiron was traveling northbound on I-65 in his fully marked 2013 Dodge Charger police vehicle when he arrived on the scene. With his emergency lights activated, Trp. Thiron attempted to change lanes from the shoulder of I-65 into the median where the crashed vehicle was located. Trp. Thiron’s vehicle was struck from behind by a 2012 Freightliner pulling a box trailer, driven by Patrick Gregory, age 30, Indianapolis, Indiana. Trp. Thiron’s vehicle spun into the median and came to rest up against the cable barrier. Trp. Thiron was transported to Schneck Medical Center for treatment of possible head injuries. He was treated and released last night. Gregory was not injured in the crash.
Northbound lanes were slow for approximately two hours for crash investigation and cleanup. The investigation is ongoing.
Trp. Thiron has served with the Indiana State Police for approximately one year.
The crash is being investigated by Trooper Matt Holley. Trp. Holley was assisted by numerous other troopers with the Indiana State Police, the Crothersville Police Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Vernon Township Fire Department.
