Early Morning Pursuit Results in Arrest of Michigan Man
Columbus-This morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Michigan man was arrested after leading police on a chase that started on I-65 near the 67 mile marker and ended when the man crashed the motorcycle on a rural Bartholomew County road.
The incident began when Trooper Korry Clark observed a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle being operated by Kevin A. Demott, age 24, Lansing, Michigan, traveling southbound on I-65 near the 67 mile marker in excess of 90 miles per hour. Trp. Clark attempted to stop the motorcycle as Demott exited at the 64 mile marker, traveling westbound onto State Route 58. Demott then fled from Trp. Clark at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled westbound from Ogilville onto county roads. Demott eventually lost control of the motorcycle on Grandview Drive. Demott’s vehicle slid off the roadway causing him to fall from the vehicle. Trp. Clark then took Demott into custody with the assistance of a Bartholomew County Sheriff Deputy.
Demott was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with a complaint of pain caused by the crash. He was treated at Columbus Regional Hospital before being transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was incarcerated. Demott was arrested on charges of possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated, and reckless driving.
Trp. Clark was assisted by troopers with Indiana State Police, deputies with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, the Harrison Fire Department, Columbus Regional EMS, and 31 Wrecker.
