Traffic Restrictions Implemented Around Carmel's Crooked Stick Golf Club For BMW Golf Championship, 9/6-9/11
The 2016 BWM Golf Championship will take place at the Crooked Stick Golf Course in Carmel from September 6 through September 11. With the weeklong golf tournament attracting top PGA players, spectator attendance is expected to be in the tens of thousands over the course of the event. To ensure resident, motorist, and spectator safety, several roads will have temporary restrictions throughout the week. Parking restrictions in the area of Crooked Stick will also be in effect.
Motorists wishing to avoid potential traffic congestion associated with the BMW Championship are encouraged to utilize State Road 32 to the north, US 31 to the east, SR 421 (Michigan Road) to the west, and I465 to the south to avoid the area. 116th Street through Carmel is not a suggested route as this is the north side of the golf course.
General parking from Tuesday through Friday is located on the northeast corner of 146th Street and Towne Road. During these days, Towne Road will be closed between 141st Street and 146th Street to facilitate shuttles transporting spectators. 146th Street from Ditch Road to Towne Road will be restricted to one-way westbound traffic between 7AM and 3PM Tuesday through Friday. No eastbound traffic will be permitted on 146th Street between Towne Road and Ditch Road during these times and non-event traffic will be routed north around the area.
In the event of rain or other inclement weather that prohibits utilizing 146th Street for parking, general spectator parking is planned at the old Indianapolis Airport, 2500 S. High School Road in Indianapolis, with shuttles transporting spectators from there. Notification will be posted if parking is changed to the airport.
General parking on Saturday and Sunday will be in lots located at CNO Financial headquarters north of 116th Street and Pennsylvania Street. Traffic along streets near that location will be affected by spectators and traffic in the area.
BWM owner parking will be at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, on Tuesday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, BMW owners will park at 3500 DePauw Blvd. at the Pyramids off Michigan Road.
All private and public drop-offs will take place at 10910 Greenbrier Road, across from Towne Meadow Elementary School. Private and public pick-ups will be directed to Towne Meadow Elementary School at 10850 Towne Road. A dedicated drop-off/pick-up area will be marked and a walkway will be established across Towne Road. No vehicles are permitted access to the main spectator entrance, located at 10803 Thunderbird Drive, or to the Crooked Stick clubhouse. Subdivision residents and their guests must have an event issued pass to access the neighborhood.
Designated parking and ADA shuttles for wheelchair bound patrons will be provided. For those spectators requiring lift-equipped shuttle transportation, please contact the tournament office at 317-324-1102. Wheelchairs will not be available for rent on the tournament grounds, but spectators may bring wheelchairs with them to the BMW Championship.
