There is a phone scam in the Williamston area. The caller is claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and claims they are calling about money owed to the IRS. This is a scam. The caller ID appears to be from the IRS. Sometimes they call back about a half an hour later and the caller ID shows the Williamston Police Department telephone number (655-4222). Please do not give out any personal information. The Williamston Police Department is not calling residents about owing money to the IRS.
