Todd Reynolds Promoted to

Comparative Science Section Commander

Indianapolis, IN- The Indiana State Police recently promoted Todd W. Reynolds to the position of Comparative Science Section Supervisor.

Reynolds graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School in Rushville, IN. in 1980 and attended Anderson College where he earned a BA in Administration of Criminal Justice in 1984.  After graduation Reynolds worked as a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and a patrolman with the Rushville City Police Department.

He began his career with the Indiana State Police Department in 1985 when he was selected to attend the 43rd recruit class.  He was assigned to the Pendleton District with primary responsibility for patrol in Hancock County.  In 1988 Reynolds was promoted to corporal and worked Post Command duties at the Pendleton District. Reynolds was promoted to sergeant in 1989 and assigned to the Laboratory Division where he served as a Firearms and Tool Mark Examiner and to first sergeant in 1995 to serve as the Unit Supervisor of the Firearms and Tool Mark Identification Unit. He was promoted to captain in 2005 to serve as the Assistant Division Commander of the Laboratory Division. Reynolds retired as a sworn officer in 2014, after nearly 29 years of service, and became the civilian Laboratory Manager at the ISP Indianapolis Regional Laboratory where he served until this recent promotion.

Reynolds now serves as the Comparative Science Section Supervisor where he will oversee the operations of the three Units which make up the Section. Those Units are the Forensic Firearms Identification Unit, Forensic Identification Latent Print Unit, and the Forensic Document Unit within the four ISP Laboratories. These job duties include performing physical comparison examinations with firearms, tools, documents, latent finger prints, as well as other items.

While serving in the ISP Laboratory Division, Reynolds has been a part of several international scientific groups setting standards for the Firearms and Tool Mark Discipline.  He chaired the FBI’s Scientific Working Group called SWGGUN for two years in the 1990s, and he was the first ISP Firearms Examiner to become a Distinguished Member of the Association of Firearms and Tool Mark Examiners while he was working casework in 1997.

“We are fortunate to have Todd serving as our Comparative Science Section Supervisor in our laboratory system,” stated Indiana State Police Laboratory Commander Major Steve Holland.  “Todd possesses the necessary experience and expertise to lead the important work groups that comprise our Comparative Sciences Section.  He also previously served on forensic-related national committees associated with firearms examinations, which speaks highly of his stature in the forensic science community.”

Todd resides in Hancock County with his wife Melissa, sons Matt and Nick and his daughter Hannah.
