Indianapolis Man Dies in Early Morning Crash on I-70
Indianapolis, IN - Shortly before 6:00 this morning emergency crews responded to a single vehicle crash on I-70 eastbound near Shadeland Avenue. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police arrived they found what appeared to be an abandoned van crashed into the median wall. While checking the area, officers soon located a deceased male subject about 100 yards behind the van lying on the left shoulder of the interstate. A short time later, troopers arrived and began the investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates a black 2008 Chrysler van, driven by 27 year old Devon Cissell of Indianapolis, struck the concrete median wall on I-70 eastbound just before Shadeland Avenue. The impact of the crash, and not wearing a seatbelt, caused Cissell to be ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle impacted the wall several times before coming to rest about 150 yards from the first impact. At this time it is not believed there were any other vehicles involved with this crash.
This is an ongoing investigation and there is no further information available at this time. Investigators will wait for toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. The family of the deceased has been notified. Several lanes of I-70 were blocked for this investigation, however the wreckage has been removed and all lanes are now open.
